4th Grade Report - Drummoyne

Greetings gallant Redmen,
The Old Ignatians Juddernaughts showed great composure and determination to secure a 22-17 victory over Drummoyne at Drummoyne Oval and keep the team well in contention for a semis spot.
With many players again unavailable across the grades, Lucas Baker (2nd grd) and Gavin Akers (3rd grd) took to the field to help out. Steve Naughton (9) opened the scoring in about the 6th minute after disrupting the Drummoyne half back at the back of a scrum, scooping up the ball and running 35 m to the line.
Drummoyne soon hit back, though, scoring out wide, but the Juddernaughts were starting to work more cohesively, winning possession and moving the ball around. After some great support play and recycling the ball, Matt May (5) made a decisive break before putting  Mike Bailey into a huge gap and over for another unconverted try. Before too long, the Juddernaughts attacked again and with the back-line ready and set, Baker ignored the 3 man over-lap to beat 15 defenders and barge over for a  17-5 lead.
Chris Pascoe (2nd row) and colt, Josh Allen (prop), replaced Baker and Akers at half-time, conceding nothing. Baker soon had to come back on though, to replace Cal Docherty(3), who had been out for a month due to injury and illness. A tough effort from Cal.
As expected, Drummoyne came out hard in the second half and soon scored a converted try despite some good defence. However, Old Ignatians continued to play 15 man rugby and on several occasions looked dangerous only to be foiled by an unlucky bounce or misdirected pass.  Instead,  Drummoyne had some luck and equalised with about 8 minutes to go.
However, to their credit, the Juddernaughts  regrouped, regained possession and moved into Drummoyne territory. Then after maintaining  pressure, Matt May put through a grubber kick for the Old Ignatian full back, Tim Naughton to dive on and score the match winner.
There were many fine performers, Tommy Droulers (6) again busy at the breakdown and winning lineouts, Mike Bailey directing the backline from 5/8 and the centres Andy Lukas and Olly Trustler solid in mid-field, whilst the newcomer from the USA, Clayton Passero, looked dangerous with some room to move.
Points went to: Matt May and Lincoln Aurisch (2) – 1pt, Hayden McHugh (8) – 2 pts, Lionel Hayden (7) – 3 pts.
Congratulations Redmen and we look forward to seeing you Wednesday evening for training when we can work on our combinations, skills and strategies and build momentum going into the back end of the season.
Cheers
