Vale Fr Tom O'Donovan
RIP Father Tom O'Donovan
=================
Dear Brothers,
Peace.
Tom O'Donovan died at 3.15pm, on Saturday January 26th 2013. Australia Day and Indian Independence Day. Michael Ryan, Michael Kelly and Tom's niece Patricia O'Donovan were with Tom as he died, praying Tom's beloved Rosary together as he joined the heavenly choir. May he rest in peace.
In Our Lord
Steve (Curtin)

=====================
Vale Toddy,
Like so many I benefited from his guidance from early days at St Aloysius then through senior years at St Ignatius. And ever since have enjoyed his company at countless weddings and christenings he has celebrated for the old boy community.
As was pointed out in another tribute he was even able to make a chapel full of Riverview boys sing with enthusiasm!! (That must qualify as a miracle!)
Most appropriate he passed on the National Days of both Australia and India, two countries that are the better for his life. And ironic also that he passed at 3.15, being the great rugby man he was - I'm sure the 1st XV in heaven will be looking forward to his guidance and pineapples at half time as I know the 1976 5th XV did! He was also a staunch advocate for the OIRFC and sport in general.
RIP
JB

Colts & 5th Grade Chilly Progression to the Big Dance
Back in 1999 I remember the
cold July Wednesday night trainings, for two reasons:
(1) it was the last time I went to training
(2) the cuts and bruises of friendly fire during
the “Chill Drill”
I move forward 13 years to this
weekend’s finals:
The tale of two teams:
Two Old Iggies Teams – with a
shared passion and never give up attitude.
Two Old Iggies Teams – separated
only by an average age difference of say 15 years
The story begins:
The Clock: 5 minutes to go
Old Iggies Colts 15 St Pats 22 - trail by 7
Old Iggies 5ths 8 Beecroft 10 - trail by 2
Like echoes from the past,
the call came to "CHILL IT".
. . . a darkness falls over
the sunny David Phillips field
. . . the degrees plummeted
. . . the crowd fades as a
mist folds in
. . . we regress back to a cold
Wednesday night and a good old fashioned “slog up the guts”.
“Pick and Drive! Chill it..... Chill it..... Chill it.”
The Clock: 4 minutes 15 metres out
“Chill it..... Chill it.....
Chill it.”
Young Maxy catapults his body
through the St Pats advantage line for another few metres.
Gav knocks over eleven
billion Beecroft forwards to inch forward five metres.
“Chill it..... Chill it.....
Chill it.”
The Clock: 3 minutes 10 metres out.
“Chill it..... Chill it.....
Chill it.”
The Clock: 2 minutes 5 metres out
Another St Pats penalty in front
of the sticks, 7 points down, a quick tap, up the guts, “Chill it again”
Beecroft steal the ball and
we go backwards 20 metres . . . . “Chill
it again”
. . . the clouds now shroud
the sun
. . . the crowd shivers
. . . and mumble a faint, distinct
chant
“Chill it again..... Chill it again..... Chill
it again”
The Clock: 1 minute 5 metres out
Colts edge it forward, inch
by inch by inch by inch . . . . . . . .
. . . . . & finally we go OVER !!!!!
Score 20-22 with a kick to
come
5th Grade edge
forward, inch by inch by inch by inch .
. . . . . . . . . . . . “Hands in the
Ruck”
Score 8-10 with a kick to
come
Both Old Iggies teams have a
kick from 20 metres out at 45 degrees and time is up.
. . . the sun cowers away,
unable to watch
. . . the crowd pucker from
the cold
. . . there is complete silence
Colts . . . . conversion . . . . it is over
. . . . 22 all is enough to
progress to the big dance
YOU LITTLE BEAUTY !!!!!
Ben King lines up his kick
. . . the sun sneaks a look
from behind a cloud
. . . rays of sunlight warm
the face
. . . yet the crowd . . . . silent, motionless and preying . . . . the Mantis steps in and strikes . . . IT IS OVER . . . . .
YOU LITTLE BEAUTY !!!!!

Semi Finals this weekend
Dear
Redmen
After
another glorious weekend of smashing the opposition (from a 5th grade
perspective) the Redmen are front & centre this weekend with preliminary
finals in the Barbour & Donnie cups.
If unfortunately
your have had to hang the boots up for another season get the chinos & vans
out (if you are under 25) or RM Williams & jeans (if you are over 35) and
come along to support some mighty fine rugby players. Its beetroot salad &
italian sausage for lunch.
Colts,
4's & 5's will be training this week so why not come down and assist in
their preparation.
Remember
to bring suitable identification if you are playing, $10 to get in if
spectating. The big dance is only 2 weeks away and the mighty Redmen need your
support.
